What I'm tinkin'

See here's a thought. All the applications we have learned about and learned to use through engaging with 23 things are life skills applications. Yes, they have application in our work situation. Or, if they don't immediately relate to work they will very soon. Fifteen years ago we only had three computers in the library, none of us had a mobile phone, we had no concept of email or www.  Can you imagine another 15 years from now.
Already we have a commitment to giving our library users skills that go beyond finding the book in the library. If they have engaged with us on skills training level they will take that skill with them and apply it outside the library. The more we engage with all this stuff , the more we change our mindset and ways of thinking about information and communication. That will  feed back into our way of working.

  1. I'm inclined to agree, although whatever we introduce will take maintenance and I think the upkeep is as important as setting up the new things in the first place. I must admit I'm smitten with lots of the new things- particularly Blogging and RSS. I'm going to have blogging-withdrawal symptoms when this is all over! (or maybe I'll just keep going, even when people arent listening anymore:)...)

  2. Indeed, it's all very fine having a good idea. But as we move on in the virtual world it will become more organic. One thing that will have to change will be the view that we are operating in a virtual world. The information and material is real.
